Insights and Resources for Caregivers

Honoring All Caregivers This National Caregivers Day

On National Caregivers Day, we recognize and celebrate the millions of caregivers, family members, friends, neighbors, and professionals, who turn everyday responsibilities into acts of compassion and dignity. Your care often happens quietly, behind the scenes, without applause or recognition. Yet to the people you support, it means everything.

Today is for you, whether you’re caring for a parent, a partner, a friend, a neighbor, or someone in your community. We honor your patience, your resilience, and the steady strength you bring to each day. The impact you make may not always be visible to the world, but it is deeply felt by those whose lives you touch.

Your Work Matters

Professional caregivers are the often unseen foundation of our aging care system. You step in when families need additional support, providing steady, skilled care that makes daily life possible. From assisting with personal needs and managing medications to preparing meals and offering meaningful companionship, your work sustains not only individuals, but entire families. It is essential to our healthcare system, to the households you serve, and to the dignity and well-being of those in your care.

To family caregivers, we see you too. We recognize the emotional, physical, and mental weight that often comes with caring for someone you love. For many older adults, family caregivers are the backbone of their ability to remain at home, to live safely, feel valued, and stay connected to what matters most. Your devotion makes that possible, every single day.

Why This Day Matters

This day matters because it shines a light on the work caregivers do every single day, work that is too often carried quietly and without recognition. It’s an opportunity to honor the nurses, home health aides, therapists, hospice professionals, and family caregivers who work together to support aging adults with compassion and skill.

Because of you, older adults are able to remain in their homes longer, experience greater stability, and maintain their independence while receiving the care they need. Today is a reminder that caregiving is not just a responsibility, it is a profound act of commitment, coordination, and love that strengthens families and communities alike.

Honor Yourself and the Caregivers Around You

For all the caregivers, make sure you take time for yourself today:

  • Prioritize your health and happiness, too. Remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish. You can’t take care of those you provide care to if you’re not healthy. You cannot pour from an empty cup. Remember to schedule time each day to do something that brings you joy because caring for yourself is just as essential.
  • You are doing an incredible job. We understand that caregiving can be an up-and-down battle. There are many challenges, but you are doing an amazing job. Make sure to give yourself grace.
  • You can ask for help. For many family caregivers, asking for help can be challenging, but caregiving isn’t a one-person job. Don’t be afraid to ask those around you for help.

For all those who know a caregiver:

  • Acknowledge and share your appreciation for the work that they do.
  • Ask if they need help. Caregiving can be demanding. Helping with grocery shopping, yard work, or sitting with their loved ones for an hour so they can have a break are all amazing ways to be there for caregivers.
  • Listen when they need someone to talk to.

You Are Not Alone

In the United States alone, over 63 million Americans are caregivers (AARP & National Alliance for Caregiving, 2025). Whether you are a professional caregiver or a family caregiver, you are part of a large community that is all contributing their time and dedication to this incredibly important work.

Today, we honor you. We see you. We recognize that caregiving – in any facet -  is an act of profound love and commitment that deserves acknowledgment every single day, not just today.

Thank you for everything you do.
